A friend I hadn’t been in touch with for over six months—a seasoned foreign trade professional—reached out to me today, asking to meet up.

Since we hadn’t seen each other for so long, I assumed she must have something important to discuss. So we agreed to meet at 8 PM at the Starbucks near my place—no excuses.


When we met, my friend got straight to the point: her company was stuck in a development bottleneck and barely surviving. The core issue? Their product designs couldn’t keep up with current trends—they lacked innovation, so customers weren’t buying. As an experienced foreign trade expert, she felt lost and directionless.


To be honest, this friend is highly capable. She once flew to Dubai alone to collect payment and traveled solo to Europe for trade shows. He admitted that after getting our quote, he’d gone with a rival who offered a slightly lower price. But after nearly three months of sample production, their products still failed the overseas client’s tests. Time was running out, and his current supplier had given up—they simply didn’t know how to improve, so the samples never met standards. His upstream client was pressuring him relentlessly; the order was already placed, pending only sample approval, and this was a major account for his company. His boss was breathing down his neck daily to get qualified samples ASAP.


As the saying goes, “What’s hard for the unskilled is easy for the skilled.” Once we fully understood his client’s requirements, we nailed the sample on the second try, securing the end client’s approval effortlessly. We resolved his crisis, and I later heard he earned a hefty year-end bonus and was promoted to Engineering Manager because of it!
